Amsterdam’s World Trade Center streamlines operations with digital access

“Granting temporary controlled access to third parties is very easy with the eCLIQ system. We can set access for a certain period of time, but we can also revoke it at any time,” says Sander Borggreve, Facility Manager at WTC Amsterdam.

Challenge

World Trade Center (WTC) Amsterdam is home to a vibrant community of over 300 companies, situated in the bustling Zuidas business district of Amsterdam. Beyond being a mere office space, WTC Amsterdam provides a wide array of onsite facilities such as childcare, a gym, a physiotherapy clinic, a bar/café, and a dry cleaning service, among others.Ensuring a safe working environment in both fixed and flexible office spaces at WTC is fundamental. However, the management team sought to enhance their access and solutions further to meet the evolving needs of their tenants.

Key criteria

  • An efficient way to manage the many contractors and suppliers who enter the buildings
  • A wire-free solution which enabled an easy switch of 1,000 doors from mechanical to digital security
  • Better oversight of movement around the building, including usage data to improve maintenance scheduling
  • Intuitive management, allowing for easy changing of individual access authorizations

Solution

WTC Amsterdam managers selected the eCLIQ digital access system from ASSA ABLOY to enhance security. They transitioned approximately 1,000 doors from mechanical to digital access by replacing the existing cylinders with eCLIQ devices. These doors are accessed using battery-powered smart keys, which have a typical battery life of 10 years.

“Providing these doors with wired access control would be a huge job and become costly. Instead, we opted for the eCLIQ solution,” says Sander Borggreve.

Workflows are further streamlined by utilizing a Traka key management system. Authorized personnel retrieve keys from the cabinet and program them with specific access rights using the adjacent eCLIQ Wall Programming Device, allowing for precise control over door access and time validity in just seconds. With the implementation of the eCLIQ system, WTC Amsterdam gained not only enhanced control but also valuable insights into user activities. This data informs maintenance and operations, ultimately reducing the Total Cost of Ownership for the access solution.

“eCLIQ works very pleasantly in practice. My employees are very satisfied with how the keys work,” adds Rutger Barendse of D&B The Facility Group, who provide security staff for WTC Amsterdam. “It is easy as pie!” concludes Sander Borggreve.
